"Youngest Champion for 50 years"
Over 100 competitors enjoyed the hospitality of the Hillside Golf Club and Formby Hall Golf Club, in excellent weather conditions on the Lancashire coast, compared to the British Open a few days later...........
The Champion over 36 holes was Andrew Molloy, aged 25, the youngest Champion since President Geoffrey Mawer won in 1958 at Formby Golf Club.
Andrew is the grandson of Joe Clarke, well known in the trade, and plays of a handicap of 3, Andrew even drew himself in the Derby Draw !!!
It was a close victory, on 72 points, with Keith davison from Yorkshire, and the result decided on a count back on the last six holes. Keith Davison therefore
winning the United Chrometanners Cup as runner up, and third, winning the
Chairman's Mashie was Vice Chairman Ian Ferris on 71 points.
The Wilbur Muirhead Scratch Cup was retained by Craig Hamilton from Barnard Castle, and Geoffrey Mawer won the Turner Bowl for the over 60's.
The Ladies Championship was won by Sheila Burridge from Chippenham
with 59 points, and the runner up was Kate James from Euroleathers in
Northamptonshire.
The Marlone Trophy for Visitors was won by Philip Waters from Llantrissant in
South Wales with 66 points, and the runner up was Simon Pollard from Leicestershire.
The International Match played at Hillside, was drawn. The England & Wales, the team Captained by Angus Winfield, and the Scotland & Ireland team Captained by Gordon Wilson, therefore England & Wales retain the Bridge of Weir Trohpy as holders from 2007.
