ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL
The Championship started in 1946 at Ifield Golf Club near Crawley and has continued, uninterupted ever since.
The object of the Championship is to promote goodwill and fellowship throughout all sections of the Industry through the golf competition, and to raise funds for the International Golf Championship of the Shoe, Leather and Allied Trades Charity Trust.
The Charity Trust was constituted by a trust deed on October 14th 1981 and was given formal charitable status by the Charity on June 24th 1987. The registered number is 296821.
The current format of the Championship is a 36 hole stableford competition, played over the Thursday and the Friday on two
different courses, so is therefore a two day event. However for those with the time available we have a Rieker
Sponsored competition on the Wednesday starting at noon, again a full handicap stableford format, for all players, including
Ladies and Visitors.
The Rieker Competition competition is preceeded by the International Match for the Bridge of Weir Trophy between Scotland & Ireland, sponsored by Micro-Pak Ltd.
and England & Wales, normally teams of 10 or 12, currently captained by Jim Liston from Dublin and Andrew James from Northamptonshire, respectively.
Visitors and Guests are most welcome and play for their own trophies, but since 2008 play within the main event, so that guests can play
with the person extending the invitation, or Guests can play together. The rules for entry to the main Championship state that a player is
one who now, or in the past, had an acceptable proportion of their business in the Shoe, Leather & Allied Trades as deemed appropriate
by the Committee.
Each year we have a Mens Champion and a Ladies Champion, each from their own section of the Championship, following rule changes
at the end of 2013 Ladies now qualify for the following Trophies, The Parker Founders Trophy, The Hugh Denton Trophy, The Turner
Bowl, The Mawer Marlow Trophy and The President Salver. Details for all the Trophies can be found on another page.
The ideal location for the Championship has two 18 hole golf courses of a high standard and a first class hotel on site, if you would like
to suggest a location for future years please email Rodney Gibson - [email protected]
